From Ed:
Greetings to all of my fellow alumni! Having relocated to Ohio almost twenty-six years ago, the draw to re-visit my peers from 1978 is irresistable.  I will be on LI the weekend before making an extra four day stay a bit of a challenge.

I stay in close contact with Mike Greico and roomed with John Fischer (Class of '79) for a few years in college before taking the plunge into a fruitful marriage of 26yrs.

Yeah, that's not a typo.  Eight kids, four boys and four girls.  Putting my fifth through college this year, and still able to talk about it.  Should make for lively conversation over the weekend.

Enjoy your summer and hope to see you all on the weekend!  All the best! Ed.

HEY KIDS! How are we all doing? 47 is the new 27, ain't it?
Alive and alledgedly well... Kind of never left Happy Hauppauge- what's new? The Ground Round is now Commerce Bank (thanks Paul!), McTees Pub is now the frozen food section of Shoprite.

Been teaching in Hauppauge for 20 years now - 18 in the Middle School- I am not mature enough for HS.  I am practically the oldest teacher in the district... Been teaching Social Studies because I sucked at all the other stuff...

Coached Varsity Track and Cross Country for 18 years- did quite a bit of winning (very humorous for those of you who were in gym class with me- how the hell could I ever coach?)... quit to be the bus stop dad... Ran the NYC Marathon 3 times (2000, 2001, 2004)- didn't win any of them...

Still quite active in the live music scene on LI and the city- been playing bass guitar in rock bands- some cool stuff...

Married to my beautiful wife Debbie for 14 years now- we actually renewed the contract in Vegas at The GRACELAND Chapel last year for #13 - kind of cool! We have 3.3 kids (#4 debuts on or about Jan. 24th- going to be a boy- evened out the teams-  yeah, I know...) - anybody a vascular surgeon out there?

1/21/08 update: in addition to Christopher-10- a great cello player- Long Island String Festival and SCMEA, Katie-9- travel soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, and great at any sport, and Kellianne-5- what a colorer!!!-today my latest little bandmate took the stage with us- Jake Jeffrey- age 9 hours!!!

Have a great pool and Tiki Bar now at my disposal... gonna need it...

Hope to catch you at a gig, Back to School Night, or a Day Care Center.

I have a gig at H20 (cafe/restaurant) in Smithtown this Friday,
August 22 ,2008 from 8-10:30pm. Maybe some alumni can swing by... There is no cover charge and plenty of room at the bar or the outside cafe.

Hope to see you guys soon...

From Shawn:
Hey, Kid's. I spent seven year's in the HHS system: graduated in 78 and never learned how to write or communicate. Never learned the game of Football or Soccer. Counselors teachers and friend's always taught me to Run, Run Shawn Run. ( I gave that line to my good friend Forest aka Tom Hank's).
I learned how to read ,write, run, cycle and communicate at  Hauppauge Community College aka Suffolk CC  and Stony Brook University where I literally almost ran/bicycled, swam, and skiied myself into oblivion. Yes I was the original triathalon man in 1982.
It's been a long 30 year's.
I spent 25 years pounding the street's of Manhattan and the NY metro area as a Real Estate Appraiser, and as of 09/01/2006 I have been travelling the Mountains of Colorado as a Real Estate appraiser with a territory from Breckenridge/ABasin all the way out to Aspen. Kinda like going from School up to Providence RI (400-450 miles) and heading home to Hauppauge. Not a bad place but you kid's born in 1960 have to see this scenery out here to beleive it.

I Hope to soon see  the people who posses the " Class of Hauppauge 78" soon,
Shawn Q.

From Erika:
Life
I am very recently divorced after 20 years, with two boys, Jake and Eli, and live in a suburb north of Chicago. We have a dog, Tova, and a Cat, Curry. The boys are the best thing I ever did, and they are happy and healthy.

I left Hauppauge/LI area in 1985, moved to NYC, then left NY for good in April of 1990. Have lived in Jacksonville, Florida; outside Atlanta, Georgia and now Illinois. I love traveling around and getting a feel for other places. It took me years to realize NY was the exception, not the rule!

I've been in sales most of my life (and to those friends who always said I was full of it, you were probably right!) first as an insurance agent and then an outside sales rep. Gives me lots of freedom and flexibility which is key.. Now I'm the Market Development Coach for the Midwest region of an eldercare referral service called A Place For Mom.

Workplace
I was an insurance agent for 20 years, but after having the kids and trying to do it all I decided I never wanted to see another insurance policy in my lifetime. Now I am a Family Advisor/Regional Director for A Place For Mom, the nation's largest eldercare referral service. I love being able to help families find senior housing during what is often a really stressful time in their lives.

I have two beautiful girls, Ashley who is 22 and was in the Hauppauge school district then went to Dowling College in Oakdale, NY was going to be a teacher but decided not to,quit for a semester and is now in Suffolk and is going to try nursing. She works for a dermatologist. She just moved in with her boyfriend and they live in Woodmere.
My other daughter Jillian will be 16 in October.  She is my social butterfly and is always with one of her friends. She played soccer since she was in 3rd grade but this year decided not to try out. She might do track instead. Jeff Parrett was her middle school coach and he was great. Jillian isn't sure what she wants to be when she grows up. So far the choices are lawyer, social worker, court stenographer. pharmacist who knows. I think the pharmacist is a good choice then we will all be in the medical field.
I work for a licensed nursing agency and pharmacy in the sales department. My territory is Manhattan, Queeens and Long Island. It is a great job. I socialize all day, build relationships, give out pads, pens and other giveaways, do lunches. I do a lot of driving though. Thank G-D for talk radio and cell phones.
I can't wait to see everybody at our 30th class reunion, boy time flies when you're having fun!

Greetings Classmates,
I’m so glad to have the opportunity to connect with old friends through this website but am sorry I won’t be able to attend the reunion. My family and I will be on vacation at that time. I hope all who attend have a wonderful time. It’s been great reading the updated bios and learning what folks are up to but, really, more of you should write in – don’t be shy! Carl, Claudia, Anne Marie, Joe T., Jay, Alan, Vicki, Debbie, and many more of you... Come on!

OK, here is my past 30 years in a nutshell. After high school, I went to SUNY Potsdam and graduated with a BA in psychology and a minor in dance. A few years later, I got my masters degree in health education from New York University. For the past 25 years, I have worked in public health education with various community-based organizations in Rockland County, NY. I currently work with schools to improve school food and physical activity to prevent childhood obesity. Love my work! I get to work with great people, form community coalitions and make the world a better place day by day (I haven’t changed much). I’ve been married 16 years to a wonderful man, Keith Cornell, and have two sons, Robin (aged 13) and Skyler (aged 9). Life’s been good and I’m looking forward to much more of it. See you all at the 40th!
Carrie
